The internet is a swamp, so bring in the alligators
PostedI read a good article the other day: “My website is ugly because I made it.” So good that it gave me the inspiration I’ve been looking for.
I’ve been wanting to launch a personal blog for a while, but haven’t been able to decide on a design and layout that spoke to my personal sensibilities. What I really mean is, I like goofy shit and want a silly little blog of my own.
LLMs are goo-ifying the Internet. They’re absolutely useful at some tasks, but without constant supervision they tend to reduce everything into a uniform, bland, and soulless mass of mediocrity. The kind of output that’s perfect for the “Who Cares? Era” of content. And that’s to say nothing of their impressive ability to lie through their teeth.
The Internet is becoming a swamp, teeming with synthetic intelligence that’s crowding out human voices. Equally fascinating and terrifying to witness happen in real-time. Especially when I clearly remember what it was like beforehand.
So if we must live in the swamp, then let’s make it our swamp. An AI can spit out an impressively generic and legible website, but only humans have the right mix of whimsy and ability to make one so delightfully inane and silly.
Bring in the alligators!
